I agree with Barry that if you can't go off-grid for a few days you need to rethink your priorities. I stayed at the Cromwell Top10 a couple of nights ago and parked beside a tent which had a power hook up, so some parks allow it.

I don't think there is any legal prohibition as long as they comply with the electrical regulations, which AFAIK means having a cable with a perminantly wired RCD. Thanks guys, Last time I visited NZ I saw lots of people in tents had cables, I camped without for over a month but bringing a young child this time.
Just wanted to know is the blue plug point the same. Powered sites are not just for caravans and motor homes, plenty of Kiwis have power to their tent site when they go camping for their fridge and other electrickery items.

A friend of mine bought a plug-in cooler box when she camped in NZ with her hubby and 2 kids. I have one myself here in Ireland for my tent. Brilliant for storing deli foods and meats, adapter for the car lighter socket and a regular plug.
Would be great to cut down grocery expenses if you could keep things for a couple of days. Where are you entering the country? Are you planning to bring your own tent and camping gear or buy it here? You can certainly get them. A cheaper option is to buy a insulated cool box Chilly bin, Esky that you can discard at the end of your trip. All of your saved places can be found here in My Trips.

They are used in tents and are quite safe provided that they are used as safely and the unit rating is not exceeded. I suggest you leave any permanent wiring until you have the time and money to pay a professional to do your installation. Also, sparky time now is wasted if you intend eventual 12v only system anyway? Last edited by Mark on Wed Jul 22, 8: Redundant quote of immediately prior post.

Were are you going? We also have a second 1 of these campers with a tow bar that we rent out.
Hex, a plan for you: This becomes the focal point for all 12 volt wiring. Install it as a priority. Neville's list above looks to be a very sensible solution.
For the last point about designing a 12V switch board, most vans use a common switch panel such as this http: Burnsco also have other heavier duty toggle switch variations on this for around the same price http:
